(MSCDFSM) Food Microbiology and Safety (TMA-3) ANSWER 2017

Q1. a) Define the following terms:
• Probiotics
• Genetic modification

ANS- Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.

Probiotics are naturally found in your body. You can also find them in some foods and supplements.

* Genetic modification involves making changes to an organism's genes to give it new traits that wouldn't occur in nature or to eliminate undesirable traits. These changes can include turning off, or silencing, a gene or inserting a foreign gene into an organism's genome, which is the complete set of genes present in an organism.
